2025 PSV Fall Meeting | October 3 - 4, 2025

Welcome

Welcome to our Fall 2025 meeting of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia! The theme is “Interventional Care:  Innovative Methods for Improving Mental Health Care.”  We are partnering with the Virginia Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists (VCCAP) for this meeting.

We will have our usual Friday evening reception to meet our colleagues from across Virginia and to interact with local legislators.  There will be a VCCAP panel discussion and talk prior to that on Friday, October 3.

Our main scientific session will be held on Saturday, October 4.  Dr. Stephanie Peglow will lead off with “A Stimulating Discussion to Treat Cocaine Use Disorder”.  That will be followed by “Psychedelic Treatment by Dr. Adam Levin.  Next will be a session on “TMS and Esketamine:  Rewiring the Brain One Pulse and Puff at a Time.”  There will then be a break to visit Exhibitors and see Poster Presentations.

After lunch and the business meeting, there will be several concurrent sessions that present something for everyone: A Resident/Early Career Psychiatrist breakout, VCCAP presentation on “Mental Illness and the Legal System, Challenges and Possible Solutions” and in the General Session, “Understanding the Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Treatment Refractory Depression” by Dr. Shriti Patel.  Following Dr. Patel will be a presentation coming from lived experience by Dr. Rebecca Barchas on “Reflections on Electroconvulsive Therapy and Stigma.”

Dr. Joseph Bell will have a presentation on Neurosurgery after these presentations and Dr. Raja Mogallapu will present “Nutrition and Psychiatry.”

Finally, there will be a panel discussion with all presenters explaining how their topics tie in to the meetings’ theme.  Presenters will also address any additional questions from attendees regarding their lecture topic.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Respectfully,

Karl W. Northwall, MD, DLFAPA
PSV President
