Welcome to our 2024 Fall Meeting of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia. The meeting will be held at Hilton Richmond Downtown, Richmond, VA, October 4-5, 2024. Our meeting's theme is “Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry and Improving Mental Health Care.” Keeping the theme in mind, we have planned for an academic extravaganza and have partnered with the Virginia Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists (VCCAP). Lecture topics include improving our understanding of the mental health and related issues of our patients, ongoing challenges to child mental health care, and the importance of being up-to-date with the advances and psychosocial issues related to psychiatry.
On Friday, October 4th, we will start the day with a panel discussion by VCCAP on the Unmet Needs in Virginia’s Foster Care System. The panelists for the sessions are Dr. Felicity Adams-Vanke from Carilion Clinic, Dr. Annie Wright from the Virginia Treatment Center for Children/Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Miss Mira Singer, Special Advisor to the Secretary of Health and Human Resources for Foster Care, and Miss Rebecca Morgan, President of the Virginia League of Social Services Executives. After the panel discussion, Dr. Abhishek Reddy from Carilion Clinic will conduct a session for the Psychiatric Society of Virginia on Sleep Medicine for Child Psychiatrists. This will be followed by our Friday evening reception, a valuable opportunity for our members to connect with each other and network with our local legislators and sponsors of our meeting. Our legislative advisors will provide us with key updates and an opportunity for us to inquire about advocacy for us and our patients.
