A Cordial Invitation to the Fall 2019 Meeting of the PSV
Jointly Provided by the American Psychiatric Association and the Psychiatric Society of Virginia

PSV’s Fall 2019 meeting will return to Virginia Beach on October 4-5, a pleasant and less crowded time to be at our shore. The theme, “Personalized Psychiatry: Science and Stratified Treatment” is a deliberate echo of the growing field of personalized (or precision) medicine, which seeks to go beyond standard algorithms, using genetic, imaging, and specific life-event data to individually tailor more effective treatments.  During our Saturday sessions, we will be hearing from one of the world’s foremost researchers in psychiatric genetics, from experts in brain imaging and in the specific impacts of adverse life events, from authorities on pharmacogenomics and on specific curative factors in psychotherapy, and from a leader in the treatment of refractory schizophrenia and depression. On Friday afternoon, we also plan to offer our regular members an optional 2-hour CME course, “Minimizing Risk When Treating Suicidal and Violent Patients”. For our resident members, there will be a special break out talk on “Managing Cyber and Social Media Risks in Psychiatry”.

As a reminder, our semi-annual meetings provide more than seminars and CME credits; they are a chance to gather as colleagues, catch up on our lives and work, and support each other personally and professionally. We look forward to seeing you again.

Sincerely,

John Urbach, MD, DLFAPA
PSV President
