Job Requirements: Applicants must have graduated from an approved medical school and board eligible or board-certified psychiatrist with active and valid license to practice medicine in the state of Virginia and possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate. Five years' experience in clinical psychiatry in a community and mental health services and leadership in a clinical practice preferred. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Job Description:Play a key leadership role in the coordination and oversight of the medical and clinical services administered by the Department of Mental Health Support Services (MHSS). The Medical Director will lead department-wide clinical leadership activities, to include; consultation, case staffing, treatment and discharge/transfer plans; program development and design; identification of training needs, and peer reviews; direct and coordinate clinical related services including psychiatric evaluations, prescribing and monitoring medications, and other psychiatric services as required; provide medical direction and consultation to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse supervisor, and community psychiatry residents to ensure the provision of the highest quality of psychiatric services; provide leadership to staff by setting the standards of professional conduct; ethical and responsible behavior, and respect for clients including promoting clients' recovery; oversee the delivery of medical and clinical services to ensure conformance with standards of practice for program licensure requirements, and utilize management; conduct quality assurance activities, including audits and patient utilization reporting, to ensure quality of care and recommendations for program and service improvements; investigate concerns or complaints regarding physician services; work with appropriate individuals in completing investigations and developing recommendations to resolve complaints; serve as medical liaison with private physicians and representatives of hospitals, agencies, departments and community organizations who work with psychiatrists and mental health clients; serve as co-chair of the Peer Review Committee of Sentinel Events and represent the Executive Director in making necessary clinical judgements; and participate in regional and state policy development activities.
